Overview
This mechanical engineering global opportunity program in France provides Texas A&M University students with an in-depth experience in French language, culture, history, government and economics, in addition to their technical fields and in-class experiences. The program includes visits to local industry and laboratories at the host university.
Students will also have direct interaction with French students not only in the classroom, but in a social setting as well. This interaction enhances the cultural experience and gives a distinctive perception of what life in France is really like. This connection with the community makes the program unique. The technical and cultural visits and the interaction with French students will also contribute to the students’ global competency development and preparation to join the global engineering industry.
The primary location and host university is the campus of Arts et Métiers located in Aix-en-Provence, France. Aix-en-Provence is a vibrant, modest-size, charming and engaging city in the southern coastal region of France. Housing is provided in local student dorms. The program includes five days in Paris visiting the city and the Paris campus of Arts et Métiers. Engineering and French language and culture classes are taught at the Aix-en-Provence campus of Arts et Métiers. The location provides ready access to the nearby city of Marseille, the French Riviera Mediterranean coast, the southern Alps, and additional destinations throughout Europe. The program schedule includes two to three long weekends to explore other destinations as students may desire. The high-speed train station and Marseille airport are easily reached by bus for leisure travel on the free weekends. Popular places students have visited in recent years include Nice, Cannes and Chamonix (France), Barcelona (Spain), London (England), Edinburg (Scotland), Rome, Venice and Florence (Italy), Munich and Berlin (Germany), and Geneva and Interlaken (Switzerland).
Tentative schedule (subject to change): classes will be held during the weekdays with some evenings and weekends available for industry visits, cultural tours, and excursions.
