Join a summer research program working with a Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) faculty mentor and the mentor's research team, just virtually. Your summer will be filled with valuable engineering, research, cultural, teamwork and global competency skills. Adapt to the Malaysian mindset and time zone without ever getting on a plane. After your summer research concludes, you will join all Texas A&M University College of Engineering interns who participated in international summer programs back in College Station! Your fall 2021 semester will include a one-credit hour fall course, ENGR 484. Wrap your summer experience up by reflecting on all aspects of the international research programs. Learn how to put your best foot forward and use this global hybrid opportunity to set the stage for your future engineering career!

Two Part Commitment

Part one:

  • VIRTUAL - summer 2021 (eight to 10 weeks)

  • Pass/fail
  • 35-45 hours per week of research
  • Weekly meetings with faculty mentor
UTP Virtual Research Programme (V-RAP)

Part two:

  • IN PERSON (College Station) - fall 2021
  • ENGR 484: one credit hour
  • Grade bearing
  • Workshops - Frame Your Experience
  • Deliverables due: Technical and cultural report

Overview

In this program, students work on a research topic of their interest under the supervision of a professor from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP). Student/faculty matching is done by UTP.

The one-credit ENGR 484 can count as a technical elective. Approval by each department. It counts as the international component of the Engineering International Certificate.

Universiti Teknologi Petronas was established in 1997 and has grown to be one of the most prominent private universities in Malaysia. UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering and technology programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. UTP has produced more than 10,000 graduates and currently has an enrollment of more than 6,000 undergraduate students and 1,200 postgraduate students from more than 50 countries around the world. Eligibility and Requirements

Admission to this program is competitive and availability is limited. Evaluation will be based on academic performance, application package materials and program goals. Only complete applications that meet all minimum admissions criteria will be accepted for evaluation.

Students who desire to study abroad in Malaysia must have:

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Good academic standing with the university
  • Required to attend all program-specific orientations
  • Sophomore, junior or senior (seniors graduating in the summer are not eligible)
