Seven new faculty members and one lecturer join the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering  at Texas A&M University in the 2014-2015 academic year, bringing with them a wide and diverse range of academic and industrial experience.

Dr. Yossef Elabd, from Drexel University in Pennsylvania, is a professor in the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M. Elabd said of his new position, “[This] is a premier department that is ideal for the elevation of our research program with outstanding facilities, resources, and faculty collaborators. I look forward to building on our core […] in the area of materials for energy.”

Dr. Costas Kravaris, from the University of Patras in Greece, is a professor in the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M. He previously was also a professor at the University of Michigan, serving at the institution in multiple positions for two decades.

Dr. Micah Green, from Texas Tech University, is an associate professor in the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M. Green said he wants to reach far with his research group, “to lead in bringing the chemical engineering discipline to bear on the new field of nanomaterials processing.”

Dr. Chad Mashuga, from Wayne State University in Michigan, is an assistant professor in the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M. Mashuga also offers fifteen years of industrial experience from The Dow Chemical Company and BASF. Of his new position, Mashuga said he is “honored to join such a diverse, dynamic and capable department…and to contribute to its outstanding reputation.”

Dr. M. M. Faruque Hasan, having received his postdoctoral training from Princeton University, joins the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M as an assistant professor. Hasan said, “I see great opportunities that the department and the Energy Institute provide to perform leading research, especially in the emerging areas of multi-scale systems engineering for energy and the environment.”

Dr. Stratos Pistokopoulos, chair professor, and Dr. Christodoulos Floudas, chair professor, join the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M this winter. Read more about their background, vision and plans.

Dr. Christin Wilson is a lecturer of technical writing in the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M. Wilson received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from The Ohio State University in 2012.

The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering, established in 1940 has consistently been a leader in chemical engineering education in the United States. This trend continues today. According to the U.S. News & World Report, the undergraduate program ranked 11th among public institutions in 2014 and the graduate program ranked 17th among public institutions in 2013. Throughout its history and still today, Texas A&M Chemical Engineering is known for educating the highest quality of students, producing engineers who are well prepared for industry upon graduation.
