Engineering Honors (EH) students in the civil and environmental engineering (CVEN) department must meet the academic and participation requirements for this track.

Academic Requirements

Students must earn at least 18 hours of honors credits (undergraduate honors courses with HNR prefix or graduate courses) in courses offered by the Colleges of Engineering or Arts and Sciences.*

*Any math or science course offered by the College of Arts and Sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or statistics) can be used to fulfill EH requirements, as long as it is approved as part of the student's degree plan.

Your hours must consist of the following:

  • At least 12 hours must be engineering credit (including honors ENGR courses in addition to honors courses from all departments or majors)
  • No more than 6 hours of graduate courses registered for undergraduate credit
  • Between 4-6 hours of research**
    • Research credits can consist of 291H/485H/491H, with at least 2 hours of CVEN/EVEN 491H
    • CVEN 485/491H have strictly enforced prerequisites of: CVEN 302, CVEN 303, CVEN 311, MATH 308, CVEN 322, CVEN 345, and CVEN 363
    • EVEN 485/491H appropriate prerequisite coursework will be confirmed with EVEN faculty at time of enrollment in the course
    • Research outside the CVEN/EVEN department will be considered acceptable on a case-by-case basis and must receive Department Coordinator approval prior to enrolling in research hours
  • ENGR 181H - 1 credit hour EH seminar course
  • Complete at least three CVEN/EVEN honors courses***

**Students can use no more than 6 hours of research toward the total 18 hours.

***CVEN/EVEN honors courses are not offered by default; students are responsible for arranging for honors sections with individual instructors during pre-registration; graduate courses taken for undergraduate credit may be used in place of an honors course.

Graduation requirements:

  • Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    • Earn a GPA of 3.25 or higher in honors courses.
  • Receive no honor code violations.

Participation Requirements

  • Honors Meeting: Meet with the CVEN/EVEN department coordinator during each academic year - email Dr. Birely at abirely@civil.tamu.edu to schedule.
  • Activity: Participate in at least one EH activity each regular semester (view the EH calendar webpage for a list of upcoming events).
  • Annual Survey: Complete the EH Survey (sent out via email) in May of each year.
