Educational Assistance Programs

Texas A&M System Doctoral Educational Assistance Program

By encouraging the professional and personal development of The Texas A&M University System employees, the Doctoral Educational Assistance Program is designed to invest in and assist employees further their knowledge, skills and job effectiveness.

This initiative began with the spring 2022 semester. Under the direction of the chancellor, the A&M System offices will conduct a sunset review in summer 2024 for purposes of continuation, adjustment or termination of the program. If the program is terminated, employees in the program would be "grandfathered in" through the end of their eligibility as defined below.

The Texas A&M System Doctoral Educational Assistance program is for full-time, budgeted employees at all Texas A&M System universities, agencies and system offices, as qualified below.

Faculty

  1. Must be employed in a full-time, budgeted faculty position within Texas A&M System for no less than two long semesters
  2. Must be employed in a full-time, budgeted faculty position within Texas A&M System each semester while in the Ph.D. program (summer eligibility is contingent on meeting this standard in the previous semester, presumed full-time employment in the following semester, and employment during the summer months. 
  3. Must be admitted to a doctoral program at a Texas A&M System university, have at least a satisfactory employee performance review on file, be in good academic standing, and have progress toward degree completion (no minimum hours required). The doctoral program must be consistent with the faculty appointment. 
  4. Funding eligibility is limited to 6 consecutive years following the initiation payment of tuition and fees. 
  5. No payments/reimbursements for additional courses outside the degree plan or auxiliary activities will be provided. 

Staff

  1. Must be employed for a minimum of 12 months in a full-time, budgeted professional staff position within the Texas A&M System. 
  2. Must be employed in a full-time budgeted professional staff position each semester while in the program
  3. Must be admitted to a doctoral program at a Texas A&M System university, have at least a satisfactory employee performance review on file, be in good academic standing, and have progress toward degree completion (no minimum hours required). The doctoral program must be consistent with the office's mission in which the staff member is employed. 
  4. Funding eligibility is limited to 6 consecutive years following the initiation payment of tuition and fees. 
  5. No payments/reimbursements for additional courses outside the degree plan or auxiliary activities will be provided. 

Funding

All tuition and mandatory fees for courses required to complete the degree will be covered.

Apply

To receive assistance, you must submit a request for each semester of participation in your approved program. Deadlines for submitting the application form are provided for each semester.

Fall

  • Application Opens: June 1
  • Application Closes: August 1

Spring

  • Application Opens: November 1
  • Application Closes: January 2

Summer

  • Application Opens: April 1
  • Application Closes: May 15

Engineering Tuition Assistance Program

To qualify for the Engineering tuition assistance program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be admitted to and enrolled in Texas A&M University*, Blinn College, or another Texas A&M System university.
  • Be employed in a staff title at Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) or the College of Engineering (COE).
  • Be budgeted at least 50% effort.
  • Have a minimum of 12 months of service in a staff title prior to the first day of class.
  • Be employed with TEES or the COE at the time of disbursement of the tuition payment. 
  • Be in good academic standing and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 for undergraduate and professional students and 3.0 for graduate students.

*Staff in a COE ADLOC (starting with “02”) enrolled in Texas A&M will automatically receive tuition assistance under the Texas A&M tuition assistance program and do not need to apply for the Engineering Tuition Assistance Program.

Second Blinn Bachelor's All things held equal, we will prioritize based on the date the request was submitted.
Third Texas A&M System Master's All things held equal, we will prioritize based on the date the request was submitted.

    • Fall/Spring Semesters
      • 1-5 credit hours: $1,000
      • 6+ credit hours: $2,000
    • All Summer Semesters
      • 1+ credit hours: $1,000
  • Blinn/Other Texas A&M System University
    • 1+ credit hours: Up to $1,000 per semester
