What is a Master of Engineering Technical Management degree?

Our Master of Engineering in Technical Management (METM) was created at the request of a team of industry leaders. This team identified a deficit in their companies of engineering leaders with the strategic and tactical skills to fully understand the business environment.

We prepare you to move to the next level in technical management with a sound understanding of the technical and business aspects of leading technical people, programs, departments or companies.

The program lasts 21 months. At the start of each academic year, students attend a one-week residency at Texas A&M University and then return home to complete all other courses online.

What makes our program unique?

Complete online, while working

Designed in collaboration with industry experts

Leadership focus grounded in emotional intelligence (EQ)

Personal coaching to accelerate leadership growth

Faculty averages over 30 years of industry experience

Relevant, real-world coursework

Texas A&M campus residency experience

Individually customized capstone project

How does METM compare to a Master of Science (MS) or Master of Business Administration (MBA)?

Unlike an MS, METM is taught by industry professionals and concentrates on current industry best practices rather than research. METM participants learn how to manage people, projects and profitability.

Unlike an MBA, METM emphasizes the technical and engineering context of business topics. Your classmates will come from leading engineering and technology companies and, like you, will have technical backgrounds.

METM provides a unique blend of industry-critical skills in leading people, managing projects, and profitability for engineering and technical professionals to become future leaders in technical management positions, while continuing to work in their companies.

What do METM alumni say?

"Excellent program for technical professionals interested in moving up in their career to a leadership position."

"The perfect program for a working professional engineer."

"A challenging and rewarding program that provides the opportunity to grow your network while studying relevant and interesting technical topics."
