Dissertation Fellowship

The Texas A&M University Graduate and Professional School offers one Dissertation Fellowship to current doctoral students who are in the final stages of analyzing their research topic and writing their dissertation.

Pathways to the Doctorate

The Pathways to the Doctorate program provides fellowships to students from The Texas A&M University System schools to help them pursue a doctorate degree at Texas A&M University, and in doing so, build relationships with faculty in the department. A mentorship to the student is required of each faculty member.

  • Award: $21,600 fellowship for the first year of your doctoral program, in addition to health insurance costs and tuition and fees
  • Prospective doctoral students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The Avilés-Johnson Fellowship

The Avilés-Johnson Fellowship was established to attract students with a proven record of success in a diverse environment, and it provides these students with significant funding each year: 

  • The Doctoral Diversity Excellence Fellowship provides four years of funding for domestic doctoral students enrolling for the first time in a doctoral program. The Graduate and Professional School will provide an $18,000 stipend per year for three years, and $10,000 per year for three years for tuition and fees, with the nominating department mandated to provide an assistantship of a minimum of 25% full-time equivalent (FTE) at the department's standard assistantship rate for three years.
  • This fellowship provides two years of funding for domestic master's students enrolling for the first time in a master's program. The Graduate and Professional School will provide a $13,000 stipend per year for two years and $10,000 per year for two years for tuition and fees, with the nominating department mandated to provide an assistantship* of a minimum of 25% FTE at the department's standard assistantship rate.
  • The total award package for the Graduate Diversity Fellowship for two years is more than $50,000.
  • Award: $13,000 to $18,000
  • Residency requirements: U.S. resident or permanent resident
  • Applicants: Prospective/new students

Lechner Graduate Grant

The Lechner Graduate Grant was established to support new/incoming graduate students at Texas A&M University.
