Become an Instructor of Record

Graduate teaching fellows assume all the responsibilities of professors, providing a great opportunity for those interested in an academic career. Teaching fellows deliver all lectures, supervise the teaching assistant and grader, hold office hours, and prepare homework, quizzes and exams. The competitive position allows graduate students to develop lifelong cohorts with other fellows and learn important time management skills.

Graduate teaching fellows learn to:

  • Improve communication skills
  • Become effective teachers
  • Interview effectively
  • Present an effective seminar
  • Negotiate a startup package

To be considered for a graduate teaching fellowship, you must be nominated by a faculty member. First, choose the course you wish to teach, and then contact any of the following:

  • Your thesis advisor
  • A professor who is willing to mentor you
  • Your department head
  • Director of the program

It is required that you pass the preliminary examination by a date specified in the call for nominations.
