Dr. Jiang Hu, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is set to be the next Editor-in-Chief of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems (TODAES) journal. TODAES is a prestigious peer-reviewed journal of ACM, a professional organization for computer science and technologies.

TODAES publishes cutting-edge research on the analysis, specification, testing, simulation, evaluation, automation and design of electronic circuits and systems. As editor-in-chief of TODAES, Hu will evaluate associate editors, execute new initiatives and enhance the review process.

"I feel very honored to be chosen since this is a very prestigious position," Hu said. "My goal is to let TODAES reach new heights and become the foremost center for propagating innovative research in the field of electronic design automation (EDA)."

Hu plans to identify and promote emerging research areas. For example, he expects to curate dedicated special issues and invite keynote papers on electronic design automation and machine learning applications in EDA.

My goal is to let TODAES reach new heights and become the foremost center for propagating innovative research in the field of electronic design automation (EDA).

Dr. Jiang Hu

Hu aspires to increase reader engagement through various initiatives such as including highlights of new TODAES issues in the Special Interest Group on Design Automation newsletters, a sub-organization of ACM. A new TODAES Highlight Webinar series will be introduced as well, and awards for Best Paper, Most Cited Paper, Most Downloaded Paper and Keynote Papers will be presented throughout these annual webinars.

Ensuring the paper review process is rigorous, fair and efficient is crucial to Hu. As a result, he will monitor the progress of associate editors and give out awards as an incentive for exemplary work. Hu values diversity and intends to appoint new associate editors from different ethnic backgrounds, prioritizing the representation of minorities and women. In addition, he will select both junior and senior editors to secure a wide range of reviewers.

Hu served nine years on the TODAES editorial board and won a Distinguished Review Board Member award in 2022. In 2013, he chaired the Best Paper Selection Committee.

Hu specializes in electronic design automation and has over 25 years of research experience. He develops automation techniques – software tools to streamline chip design – such as modeling simulations to simulate chip behaviors and optimization techniques to improve factors like performance and power efficiency. He also offers expertise and guidance on the implementation of these techniques.
