Dr. Jaime Grunlan has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) for his significant contributions to the science and engineering of polymeric materials.

Grunlan, Leland T. Jordan ’29 Chair Professor in the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, is one of three PMSE members to be inducted as Fellow in 2024, making him part of the smallest member class in history.

Since 2000, PMSE annually honors a small percentage of members. Grunlan was selected “for outstanding contributions toward protective polymer and nanocomposite coatings, especially environmentally benign flame retardancy, along with consistent support of PMSE.”

Grunlan said that being named a PMSE Fellow is a tremendous honor for him.

“It’s truly a lifetime achievement of sorts, despite the fact that I am only at the midpoint of my career,” he said. “Only a very small fraction of PMSE members are named fellow. It acknowledges the incredible impact that my research group has made in the field of polymer science.”

As PMSE celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024, the ACS division provides a forum for the exchange of technical information between polymer scientists and engineers. PMSE strives to create a community of polymer scientists and engineers equipped to solve global problems.

This recognition follows his induction into the class of 2023 ACS Fellows.
