Dr. George Pharr was selected for the Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher award from ASM International, the world’s largest materials scientists and engineers association.
The Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award recognizes unusually long and devoted service in teaching, significant accomplishments in materials science and engineering, and an unusual ability to inspire and impart enthusiasm to students, according to the ASM website.
Pharr, a University Distinguished professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was honored “for selfless lifelong mentorship of graduate students, contagious enthusiasm in teaching metallurgy to young generations, and for developing nanoindentation into an important materials characterization tool.”
“Teaching has always been very important to me, so I was greatly honored to receive this award,” said Pharr. “In addition, it was particularly pleasing to see the list of previous recipients since many have been role models for me in many aspects of my career.”
Pharr was honored at the 2023 ASM Awards Dinner on October 17 during IMAT23.
