Dr. Pramod Khargonekar, assistant director of the Directorate of Engineering at the National Science Foundation, presented the Fowler Distinguished Lecture Series in Mechanical Engineering on March 26, 2014. He spoke about Contemporary Issues in Engineering Research and Education - A View from NSF

The lecture was aimed at stimulating a conversation about fundamental engineering research and contemporary engineering education challenges. Dr. Khargonekar discussed the key strategic issues in advancing the frontiers, strengthening the innovation ecosystem and addressing the critical challenges in engineering education.

The Fowler Distinguished Lecture Series is endowed by Mr. Donald Fowler ‘66 and Dr. Joe Fowler ‘68. This endowment allows the Department of Mechanical Engineering to invite nationally recognized scientists, engineers, and researchers to Texas A&M University to present lectures of interest to students, faculty, and industry representatives. Mr. Donald Fowler is the owner of Fowler Energy Company, and is currently a member of the President’s Council of Advisors at Texas A&M University. Dr. Joe Fowler is the President and Co-Founder of Stress Engineering Services, Inc. and is a former member and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Council.
