Coming to Texas A&M University knowing nothing about its culture or traditions, Senthil Veluswami ’05 quickly realized that A&M was more than just a university—it was a foundation to building his dream career working with Microsoft Windows. Now, Senthil is giving back to his fellow Aggies and supporting the next generation of computer science engineers.
Choosing Aggieland
Senthil decided to attend Texas A&M due to its highly respected computer science department. To this day, he still remembers the joy that came from receiving his acceptance letter back in 2003.
His knowledge of Texas A&M was limited, so after moving to College Station, he became a sponge and soaked up the university’s history and traditions. After attending a handful of football games at Kyle Field, Senthil had a newly found appreciation for the culture around him.
“It was a lot of fun and more importantly helped me appreciate the Texas A&M tradition and culture,” Senthil said.
His experience at Texas A&M ultimately laid the foundation for his future. Empowered by the opportunities that the university gave him and support from key players in his academic success like his advisor Dr. Hank Walker, Senthil was able to interview and land a job with Microsoft. Now as a partner software engineering manager, he continues to advance the Windows Operating System.
“I didn’t realize how much I enjoy working with curious people to solve problems and make a meaningful difference to our customers,” Senthil said.
Aggies Help Aggies

Raised in a family that deeply valued giving back to the community, Senthil understood from an early age the importance of supporting his community.
“Having grown up seeing my parents and grandparents help the community frequently, it embodied an early sense of commitment to help ones in need,” Senthil said.
Nearly two decades after graduating, Senthil felt like it was time to give back. By establishing the Soundari and Senthil ’05 Graduate Fellowship in Computer Science, Senthil helps ensure that future Aggies have the same opportunities he did by supporting them to pursue their education without financial stress.
“I would not be where I am without the education, support, and opportunities provided by A&M,” Senthil said. “It feels righteous to give back to A&M and make a long-lasting difference to future generations of Aggies.”
Senthil is also deeply grateful for Microsoft’s Matching Gifts Program, which has played a crucial role in making this scholarship possible.
"Microsoft matches dollar for dollar, which has encouraged employees to give back," he explains. "It has made a huge difference not only for employees but also for the global community."
Because of Microsoft's matching program, Senthil was able to impact students lives and futures as engineers. He encourages others to use that same opportunity if given to assist other students who need financial assistance.
Beyond the financial aspect, Senthil encourages his fellow former students to give back to Aggieland. Whether it’s volunteering with student organizations, mentoring the next generation, or working toward endowing a scholarship, his goal is to change the lives of future Aggie engineers. He also reminds fellow Aggies that many employers offer matching gift programs—an easy way to double the impact of their generosity.
How to give
Endowments supporting the students in the college have an immeasurable impact on their education. If you are interested in supporting the College of Engineering and its departments or would like more information on how you can give, please contact one of our development officers.
