In the late 1980s, Robert “Bobby” McGoldrick ’89 and Becky McGoldrick ’88 were finding their way through the challenges and opportunities of college. Looking back, the McGoldricks can’t help but be thankful to Texas A&M University for the many lessons, memories, and friendships they gained as students. The McGoldricks are giving back to the university and the College of Engineering by launching the Robert ’89 and Becky McGoldrick ’88 Endowed Scholarship to support a student in need.

The McGoldricks find it rewarding to help a fellow Aggie experience all that A&M has to offer, just as they did decades ago. As a student, Bobby was fortunate to receive Foundation scholarships, which provided him with extra support and valuable opportunities.

“My degree and education helped me to have a successful career that blessed us to be able to provide a gift,” Bobby said. “Therefore, I wanted to provide this benefit to the next generation of engineering students.”

Texas A&M’s reputation for engineering initially attracted Bobby to the university, but it was the friendly atmosphere of campus that sold him on becoming an Aggie. Bobby learned lessons beyond the classroom about developing valuable relationships and how to tackle challenging problems. By establishing this scholarship, the McGoldricks hope they can lighten the financial burden of a hardworking student and allow them to not only attend Texas A&M but to enjoy it.

“My freshman year I lived on campus,” Bobby said. “I made friends with people who really treated me well and supported me. Also, I participated in a lot of on-campus activities like intramurals, bonfire, football games, midnight yell, and many others. It really helped me experience and understand what being an Aggie is all about.”

Becky McGoldrick said they’re hope is to ease the financial burden of a deserving student and grant them the opportunity to focus more on their studies.

“‘To whom much is given, much is expected,’” Becky said. “Our lives have greatly benefitted from my husband's engineering degree from A&M. We would love to help other students have the same success.”

Bobby’s career at Texas Instruments has been full of opportunities to work with great co-workers and customers around the world. Robert and Becky are grateful to Texas A&M for the opportunities, their education has provided them. The McGoldricks are honored to support an Aggie engineer’s education and provide them an opportunity for success at the same university that made theirs possible.
