Dr. Emily Pentzer has been selected to the 2024 New Voices in Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine cohort.

Pentzer, associate professor of materials science and engineering and chemistry at Texas A&M University, was one of 26 emerging U.S. leaders named to the third cohort of New Voices.

Founded in 2018, New Voices is a cohort-based leadership program at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that promotes collaboration between early- and mid-career scientists, engineers and medical professionals. The program strives to diversify the expertise engaged in the convening and advisory functions of the National Academies. Members are chosen through an open, merit-based competition.

The New Voices Cohort I will work with has some of the most thoughtful and amazing individuals from across the nation, and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish in the next two years.

Pentzer and the other members of her cohort will serve a two-year term and then transition to active alumni. Cohort members meet virtually once a month and in-person twice a year. Throughout their term, members will develop interdisciplinary projects, engage in the advisory and convening work of the National Academies, and build a network of emerging STEM leaders at the national and international levels.

“They represent proudly the best and brightest of young American researchers,” National Academy of Sciences President Marcia McNutt said of New Voices members.

“I am honored and excited about this unique opportunity to address some of the challenges and paths forward for science, engineering, and medicine,” said Pentzer. “The New Voices Cohort I will work with has some of the most thoughtful and amazing individuals from across the nation, and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish in the next two years.”

At Texas A&M, Pentzer leads research focusing on organic materials preparation, characterization and application.
