In a prestigious ceremony held at Texas A&M University, Dr. David Sweeney, a distinguished faculty member from the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution, was presented with the highly acclaimed Open Education Champion Award. This university-level honor, organized by the Student Government Association, recognizes educators dedicated to utilizing open educational resources to enhance the learning experience for students. Out of an impressive pool of about 600 nominees, Sweeney emerged as one of the seven exceptional individuals chosen for this esteemed recognition.
 
His commitment to accessible education is evident in his creation of open-access teaching materials, which improve the educational experience for Texas A&M University students and enable broader access to scholarship. By merging these domains, the program equips students with proficiency in technical and non-technical areas, enabling them to excel in the rapidly evolving information technology service management field.
 
"We are thrilled to now be a part of the College of Engineering," shared Sweeney, highlighting the recent transition of the Technology Management program. “Under the leadership of Dr. Katherine Banks, president of Texas A&M, several academic programs were consolidated to enhance collaboration across the university. This move finds our program a new home in the College of Engineering and aligns with our program's unique focus on leadership, management and technical expertise. Our students are equally excited about the opportunities ahead in this dynamic environment."
