The health care industry relies heavily on the contribution of bright minds to provide medical care and support from all angles — family, friends, doctors, nurses, researchers and engineers. Aggie engineer Craig White ’72 and his wife Betty White embody selfless service and dedication to the future of medicine. After walking alongside each other during Betty’s journey with cancer, they are passionate about advancing medical care and have created the Betty and Craig White ’72 Biomedical Engineering Endowed Scholarship.
Craig’s connection to Texas A&M University began when he attended the esteemed College of Engineering to study chemical engineering. Quickly after graduation, he took a job with Fluor Corporation, an engineering and construction firm. Throughout his career, he was able to travel to many parts of the world as a project engineering manager.
My degree and the Aggie network have given me many opportunities to advance in my career. This scholarship is an opportunity to contribute to the traditions and to foster the Aggie network.
Holding great pride in his alma mater, Craig feels that wearing the Aggie ring is a distinct honor. He saw the opportunity to foster the Aggie network by creating an endowment to give back to the university that had given him so much.
The Whites’ firsthand experience with cancer diagnoses and treatment gave them an in-depth perspective of the importance of access to quality medical care. Craig and Betty understand the power of education to create a better future. They want to support students who they hope will go on to develop life-saving technologies and treatments through careers in medical device creation or oncology, with the ultimate goal of eliminating cancer.
“The material things in our lives fade in importance as we realize the impact we can make on the future through supporting education,” Betty said. “Craig and I want to pass it forward, encourage and inspire others.”
