Dr. Srikanth Saripalli is now an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), an honor recognizing recipients for their exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.

The distinction of associate fellow recognizes the contribution of significant engineering or scientific work advancing the arts, sciences or technology of aeronautics or astronautics, according to AIAA.

Saripalli is the J. Mike Walker '66 Professor in the J. Mike Walker '66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He also serves as the director of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station's Center for Autonomous Vehicles and Sensor Systems.

He earned his doctoral degree in computer science from the University of Southern California.

"Being an AIAA associate fellow is a recognition of my hard work and dedication to my field," Saripalli said. "It is also a validation of my expertise and a confirmation of the impact I have made in the industry. My work on unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and autonomous vehicles — specifically on autonomous off-road vehicles and autonomous landing for UAVs — contributed to the election and had a significant impact."

Saripalli's research focuses on autonomous vehicles, unmanned systems, aerial vehicles, vision-based control, guidance, navigation and control.
