Dr. Arul Jayaraman, professor and interim department head of the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University; the Artie and Dorothy McFerrin Foundation; and the Chemical Engineering Advisory Council have come together to establish the Dr. Nazmul Karim Endowed Chemical Engineering Graduate Fellowship. The endowment will be used to provide one or more fellowships to full-time students in good standing pursuing a graduate degree in chemical engineering.
The fellowship was established to honor the life and legacy of Karim, who passed away in June 2019. He was the holder of the T. Michael O'Connor Chair II and head of the chemical engineering department from 2012-19.
Over the course of an impressive 30-plus year career, Karim authored more than 250 refereed publications and gave over 400 technical invited and contributed presentations at national and international conferences. He was the co-author of the textbook, “Chemical and Bioprocess Control,” which is used in over 50 universities worldwide. He graduated more than 25 doctoral students and was an American Institute of Chemical Engineers fellow.
Karim had a tremendous impact on the chemical engineering department. During a memorial event at Texas A&M, faculty members from the department shared memories of Dr. Karim.
