Three faculty members within the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University were recognized with international awards from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Visiting professor Dr. William D. McCain Jr. will receive the SPE Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award. This honor recognizes his outstanding literary and academic contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in the area of reservoir technology.

Dr. George Moridis, George and Joan Voneiff Professor in Unconventional Resources, will receive the SPE John Franklin Carll Award in honor of his contributions of technical application and advancement of petroleum development and recovery.

Dr. Jeff Spath, holder of the Stephen A. Holditch ’69 Department Head Chair in Petroleum Engineering, will receive SPE honorary membership in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding service to the institute throughout his career.

Moridis and Spath will receive their awards at the 2019 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Due to his death on Sept. 20, McCain's award will be received by the department and given to his family.

The SPE is the largest individual-member organization for professionals within the petroleum industry. The ATCE is an annual gathering of international members of the SPE celebrating the dedication, distinction, service and endeavors of those who promote petroleum engineering.
