Stancy Simpson ’77 has established the Elton Simpson ’77 Endowed Scholarship to provide one or more scholarships to full-time students in good standing pursuing a degree in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University.
Simpson and her late husband, Elton, met while attending Texas A&M, where they both were pursuing degrees in chemical engineering.
“My husband’s family couldn’t afford to help him pay for school so he attended Tyler Junior College for his first two years and then participated in the co-op program where you work full time for a semester and then attend school full time for a semester, all while supported by scholarships,” she said.
Simpson understands the value of scholarships and recognizes the peace it can bring students who are struggling to pay for their schooling.
“After Elton’s passing I decided, in gratitude for what Texas A&M meant to both of us, to establish a scholarship to help students,” Simpson said. “I want students to experience Texas A&M and not worry about having so much debt after graduating.”

How to Give
The College of Engineering is one of the leading engineering programs in the United States, ranking first in undergraduate enrollment and ninth in graduate enrollment. Endowments supporting the students in the college have an immeasurable impact on their education. If you are interested in supporting the College of Engineering or would like more information on how you can give, please contact Haley Jennings, director of development.
