On Jan. 23-24 the Student Engineers’ Council (SEC) at Texas A&M University held their Spring 2019 Engineering Career Fair at Reed Arena. The event attracted approximately 5,700 students seeking internships and jobs from the 394 participating companies, making it the largest spring semester fair the SEC has hosted to date. The fair is a premier recruiting event that is planned, organized and staffed by students, making it the largest student-run career fairs in the nation.

In addition to many Aggie-owned companies in attendance, students had the opportunity to meet and speak with recruiters from many Fortune 500 Companies such as Valero, Oracle, Intel, Raytheon, USAA, L3 Technologies, American Express and more.

“I think the biggest impact the fair has is preparing students for the future,” said Reed Hampton, president of the SEC. “A lot of them come in and they haven’t had a lot of experience dealing with recruiters and staff in an industry setting, which is a skill that is going to be vital for them in their upcoming years at school and in their professional careers. The SEC and the career fair are a great introduction to the rest of their life. It’s a doorway to the future.”

The day before the fair, the SEC hosted two events, a welcome social and the company showcase. At the welcome social, students had the opportunity to interact with company recruiters in a relaxed, professional setting. The company showcase is an informational style event where students learned about how to better understand companies, recruiting practices and the typical positions that are filled by engineering students through brief presentations given by the participating companies.
