Dr. Alexei Poludnenko, associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, was awarded the 2018-19 McElmurry Teaching Excellence Award at the Aerospace Engineering Annual Awards banquet held Nov. 15.

The McElmurry award is presented annually by the senior class to a member of the aerospace engineering faculty who exemplifies dedication and commitment to developing students professionally and academically by displaying a desire for students to succeed, creatively presenting classroom material, and offering opportunities for mentorship and guidance outside of the classroom. The award is named after Thomas Uriel McElmurry, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.), who taught in the department for 13 years.

Poludnenko’s research interests include aerospace propulsion systems, chemical and thermonuclear combustion, turbulence in reacting and non-reacting flows, computational fluid dynamics and high-performance computing and space weather, plasma physics and magnetohydrodynamics.
