Cheryl A. and retired USAF Colonel John K. Buffin ’67 have established the Cheryl A. and John K. Buffin ’67 Scholarship in the College of Engineering to be used to provide scholarships to two full-time students in good standing, who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in industrial and systems, aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.

John Buffin earned his degree in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M in 1967.

While working in the acquisition business for an aerospace firm, Buffin saw that women were underrepresented in the field. He and his wife Cheryl created this scholarship in response to his experience.

“I felt the way to spur change and encourage women to be involved in STEM-based careers was to provide a scholarship that was tailored to them,” Buffin said.
