Harikrishnan Rajendran, a doctoral student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been selected to receive one of two International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarships.

This scholarship is funded by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and presented to a student majoring in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of the high-temperature, high-performance materials used in the gas turbine industry and all other applications.

"I am incredibly humbled and honored to have been selected for the prestigious TMS International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship,” says Rajendran. “I would consider this award from TMS as a token of appreciation for the research endeavors of my advisor, Dr. Jean-Briac le Graverend. This recognition is an encouragement for my doctoral study, which focuses on the fundamental understanding and prediction of the property degradation of Ni-based single crystal superalloys to better design the material for high-temperature applications, and thereby retarding the insidious turbine blade failure.  I would also like to thank Dr. (Amine) Benzerga and Dr. (George) Pharr for their support for my scholarship application and their interest in our research."

Rajendran will be presented with the $2,000 award and a certificate during the 2018 Materials Science & Technology Conference in Columbus, Ohio, in October.
