Dr. Raymundo Arróyave, Presidential Impact Fellow Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, is Chairing the Organizing Committee of the 2018 International Conference on Computer Coupling of Phase Diagrams and Thermochemistry (CALPHAD).
Since 1973, CALPHAD has provided scientists and students interested in thermodynamics of materials with an opportunity to meet, present and discuss their work in a friendly atmosphere.
“Phase diagrams are the maps that help materials scientists navigate the materials space,” Arróyave said. “For over 50 years, the CALPHAD community has been hard at work developing the models and tools to predict phase diagrams in complex materials. These tools lie at the heart of virtually all initiatives and research programs (worldwide) that are focused on the accelerated development of alloys.”
The CALPHAD meeting will, once again, bring the top experts in the field for a week of intense and rewarding exchange of ideas on the state-of-the-art of computational thermodynamics of alloys. The six-day event will feature a technical program, poster contest and short courses, along with ample social and sightseeing opportunities for conference goers.
“The CALPHAD meetings are integral parts of thermodynamics and alloy design committees to get together and push the boundaries of materials design in the framework of materials genome initiative,” said Dr. Ibrahim Karaman, department head in the materials science and engineering department. “Dr. Arroyave’s leadership to organize this conference is a testament to success of Texas A&M’s facility and infrastructure investment in computational materials design.”
