Michael Foss, immediate past president of Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), and Dr. Natarajan Gautam, recipient of the Fellow Award from the IISE.
Dr. Natarajan Gautam of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University received the Fellow Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) at the IISE Annual Conference and Expo in May 2017. Gautam is a professor and the associate department head for undergraduate affairs.
The Fellow Award recognizes outstanding leaders who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial engineering. This is the highest classification of IISE membership.
Gautam is a leading scholar in the area of stochastic modeling and analysis for engineering systems. He has performed impactful research, teaching and professional service in promoting excellence in the field of industrial and systems engineering. He recently authored the book “Analysis of Queues: Methods and Application.” Gautam is on the editorial board of IISE Transactions and chairs the content review board of the Industrial Engineering Body of Knowledge. He received the IISE Outstanding Young Industrial Engineer Award and many teaching awards, including those given by the IISE student chapter.
Gautam is the latest member of the department's faculty to be awarded fellow status. Others include, Drs. Kem Bennett, Satish Bukkapatnam, Guy Curry, Yu Ding, Georgia- Ann Klutke, Mark Lawley, César O. Malavé, Don Phillips, Hamid Parsaei, and Wilbert E. Wilhelm.
"It is a tremendous honor to be inducted as an IISE fellow and join my 10 other current Texas A&M colleagues (including emeritus) in that group," said Gautam.
