Dr. Alfredo Garcia has joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University as a professor.
Before coming to Texas A&M, Garcia served as commissioner of the Colombian Energy Regulatory Commission from 1998-2000. He then served as a member of the faculty at the University of Virginia and University of Florida for 16 years.
"I am excited to join one of the top engineering schools in the nation," said Garcia. "I intend to contribute to (the department’s) research footprint in systems engineering and to develop new course offerings in systems science."
Garcia’s research interests include game theory and dynamic optimization, with applications in electricity and communication networks.
“We are very lucky to have Dr. Garcia join us,” said Dr. Mark Lawley, department head of the industrial and systems engineering department. “His expertise in operations research coupled with his extensive knowledge of energy systems will put us at the forefront of smart and resilient energy delivery.”
Garcia received bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia and the Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan.
