Dr. Tony McDonald has joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University as an assistant professor.
“I am excited to start my academic career in such an outstanding department, and I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with my distinguished colleagues both within the department and college, and at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute,” said McDonald.
Before joining Texas A&M, McDonald was a manager of software development and senior software engineer at Oracle for three years.
“My primary goal is to innovate in my research methods as well as in the classroom, where I hope to leverage my industry knowledge and methods such as ‘flipping the classroom’ to keep students engaged and prepare them for both industry and academia,” said McDonald.
His research uses machine learning to solve human factors issues in the transportation and health care domains. Specifically, he is interested in designing and improving models of human behavior for driving applications and chronic disease management technologies.
“We are delighted to have someone of Dr. McDonald’s skill joining our human systems group,” said Dr. Mark Lawley, industrial and systems engineering department head. “His work spans the domains of human factors and data analytics, which represents a strategic opportunity for our department.”
McDonald received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
