Dr. Robert Nevels, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been appointed to the administrative committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers' (IEEE) Nanotechnology Council.
The IEEE Nanotechnology Council is a multi-disciplinary scientific group with more than 7,000 members from 22 IEEE societies worldwide. It has three technical journals and organizes several nanotechnology conferences around the world each year.
Nevels was recognized for his work in plasma and plasmonic theory. His research includes methods for designing nano-antennas that allow wireless communication of information between microwave and nanoscale devices and for detection and imaging of molecules down to one nanometer in diameter.
He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and past president of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. He established the Electromagnetics and Microwave Laboratory at Texas A&M and initiated several undergraduate and graduate courses in electromagnetics. He was also the associate department head from 1998-05.
