Dr. Bryan Deuermeyer, emeritus professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University, passed away July 7, 2017.
Deuermeyer served as assistant professor at Krannert Graduate School of Business for Purdue University for two years before joining the industrial engineering in 1978 where he served as an associate, then full professor for a total of 28 years.
His research interests were in inventory, optimization, software development and simulation. He taught graduate and undergraduate courses in production, optimization and stochastic processes.
During his time as a researcher, Deuermeyer published approximately 30 scholarly research articles in journals such as Management Science, the Journal of Applied Probability and the INFORMS Journal on Computing and IIE Transactions. His research was funded by a variety of sources including the National Science Foundation, SEMATECH, the Department of Energy and industry.
Beyond his research and teaching, Deuermeyer made significant service contributions to the department. He was the area director for operations research, director of the undergraduate programs and interim department head from 2000-02.
He received awards including the Tenneco Meritorious Teaching Award, the Neely/Dow Faculty Fellow, the SEMATECH Inventor Recognition Award for Software Development and multiple outstanding publication awards.
Deuermeyer received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, and his master’s and Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Northwestern University.
