Jeffrey Jensen, a former student of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, was named one of The Association of Former Students’ 12 Under 12 Young Alumni Spotlight recipients.
Each year, The Association of Former Students’ 12 Under 12 Young Alumni Spotlight recognizes 12 Aggies who have graduated within the past 12 years for their outstanding accomplishments in business, civic service and philanthropy, and for representing Texas A&M’s core values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service.
“Dr. Jensen is an outstanding recipient of the 12 Under 12 Young Alumni Spotlight,” said Dr. Greg Huff, Jensen’s adviser in the department. “He was an exemplary student throughout all of his degrees, and I am very happy to have worked with him throughout his academic experience.”
Huff said that as a doctoral student Jensen worked tirelessly to engineer a first-of-its-kind computer vision system for tracking, coordinating and studying swarms of distributed intelligent systems, like drones and unpiloted air vehicles. As a result of his research, new ways of providing communications (cellular, internet, etc.) to remote or under-served areas are being developed, harnessing the collective capabilities of these autonomous systems to achieve even more complex tasks.
“This is just a small example of his many accomplishments because he is always looking for ways to innovate and change the world,” Huff said. “Jensen’s transformative ideas and tireless efforts to pursue his dreams are contagious, and I think this honor will elevate his status as a role model for other Aggies. I am positive he will continue to play a key role in inspiring the next generation of Aggies and continue in our tradition of lifelong learning and service.”
Jensen received his bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Texas A&M. His graduate research efforts focused on spatial signal control of random arrays using novel computer vision techniques for applications in drone/UAV swarms. Additionally, his further research pursuits include highly available control systems, real-time redundant software control design patterns and mobile application development for science and engineering education initiatives. He was active in the Student Engineers' Council and Traditions Council during his time as a student at Texas A&M.
He currently serves as vice president of architecture at Arundo Analytics, where he is responsible for the design and implementation of a big data/machine learning framework for the oil and marine industries. Before joining Arundo, Jensen helped found and advise two other companies, Raven Standard LLC., an engineering services firm, and Wirestar Networks, an internet service provider in Bryan/College Station. Additionally, he was an automation solution architect at Siemens Industry, where he was awarded employee of the year for ingenuity and innovation.
Jensen volunteers his time empowering young leaders as an ambassador for One Young World and advises aspiring entrepreneurs in Houston. He is an active triathlete and is a supporter of the Ironman Foundation.
