Joseph C. Brewer, Jr., (pictured left) a former student of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, was inducted to the National Academy of Construction (NAC).
Brewer, vice president and Sadara Chief Implementation Officer of Dow Chemical, was inducted at the NAC annual meeting in Napa Valley. Three hundred industry leaders were considered for membership and the 2016 class includes 30 new inductees.
“The new members of the National Academy of Construction represent the best of the best of those who have distinguished themselves through stellar careers and contributions to the engineering and construction industry,” said Wayne Crew, general secretary of NAC. “Our mission is to recognize these leaders and to share the academy’s reservoir of expertise in all facets of the built environment in service to our nation.”
During his 36-year career at Dow, Brewer has served in a multitude of engineering, management and executive roles: design engineer, project engineer, design section manager, engineering manager of continental operations, company project manager in The Netherlands and president of Dow Engineering Company. He has experience domestically and internationally, including the EQUATE joint venture in Kuwait, a $4 billion expansion project, and the $16 billion Sadara Chemical Program, the largest chemical plant ever constructed in a single phase. Sadara is a joint venture of Saudi Aramco and Dow in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. He also is a contributing author to the Dow Global Project Methodology.
Brewer earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering magna cum laude from Texas A&M.
The National Academy of Construction, established in 1999, is an organization of industry leaders ? construction users, engineers, designers, constructors, consultants, attorneys, sureties and academics ? who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering and construction industry. In addition to being a personal honor, election to the Academy allows members to volunteer their expertise to a variety of organizations, governmental and nongovernmental, for the betterment of the industry as a whole.
