Applegate

Dr. Brian E. Applegate, associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University, was recently elected a Fellow of the Optical Society (OSA).

Out of 177 member nominations, OSA elected 96 Fellows for 2017, representing 19 countries. The election is based off nominations by current Fellow members.

Applegate was elected for significant contributions to development of novel multimodal molecular and functional optical imaging approaches and innovations in 3-D cochlear optical vibrometry, and for service to the optics community.

According to OSA, the number of Fellows is limited by the society’s bylaws to be no more than 10 percent of the total OSA membership, and the number elected each year is limited to approximately 0.5 percent of the current membership total.

Founded in 1916, OSA is the leading professional organization for scientists, engineers, students and business leaders who fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate achievements in the science of light. Through world-renowned publications, meetings and membership initiatives, OSA provides quality research, inspired interactions and dedicated resources for its extensive global network of optics and photonics experts.
