The Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Honorable Stephen G. Burns, spoke to the students, staff and faculty of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University as part of a special seminar. Burns presented the seminar as the guest of the department and the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI), and also toured facilities and labs within the department and met with students and faculty.
Burns began his career as an attorney and has worked as an attorney both within and outside of the NRC, beginning his work for the NRC in 1978. He served as general counsel to the NRC from May 2009 until April 2012 and has also served as executive assistant to former NRC Chairman Kenneth M. Carr. Burns was sworn in as a commissioner of the NRC in 2014 and was designated as the chairman of the NRC beginning in January 2015.
