M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Krishna Narayanan holder of the Eric D. Rubin ’06 Professorship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The endowed professorship was effective Aug. 1.
Narayanan is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, India, a master’s degree from Iowa State University and his Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology, all in electrical engineering.
Narayanan’s research interests include: the role of structures codes in multi-terminal information theory; joint source and channel coding for wireless communications; design and analysis of codes and decoders for applications in wireless communications; data storage and optical communications; information forwarding in wireless networks; design of message passing algorithms for solving Lagrangian dynamics problems; the design lattice codes; genomic signal processing, bioinformatics and systems biology; and spatially coupled LDPC codes and graph-based codes with high throughput decoder architectures.
