Students, faculty and industry partners of the Department of Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University attended the 2016 joint meeting of the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering (SNAME) this spring.
Graduate and undergraduate students presented their capstone design projects to faculty, MTS Houston Section members, SNAME Texas Section members and industry representatives.
Based on their cumulative GPA and class rank, three ocean engineering undergraduate students, Parker Buss, Carson Pepper and Hanmo Zhang, were inducted into Omega Epsilon, an honor society in the department.
Robert Cresap, Martina Garcia, Austin Grieger, Chase Lucia and Amanda Massingill received Department of Ocean Engineering Service Awards.
Lauren A. Waldron was named the recipient of the MTS Outstanding Ocean Engineering Student Award. Jasper R. Janssen received the ABS Graduation Award.
Colin Ocker ’97, project manager at Anadarko Petroleum, discussed the Heidelberg Spar Project, which is located 140 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, and 390 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas. It is estimated to hold between 200 and 400 million barrels of oil.
Knut Ekenberg, owner, vice president and chief technology officer of Ultra Deep, talked about subsea umbilicals and advanced engineering support for development of deepwater umbilical riser systems.
