ORYX GTL organized a ceremony on April 21 to recognize the research contributions of Dr. Nimir Elbashir (second from left), associate professor in the chemical and petroleum engineering programs and chair of the ORYX GTL Gas-to-Liquid Excellence Program, and Dr. Reza Tafreshi, associate professor in the mechanical engineering program.
The event celebrated the completion of a project that evaluated the potential and impact of introducing ultra-clean diesel fuels in Qatar and across the region. The study evaluated the properties, emissions and performance of 10 school buses using ORYX GTL diesel fuels in comparison to 10 other school buses using conventional diesel.
Texas A&M Qatar’s Fuel Characterization Lab and the Engine Research and Testing Lab provided detailed assessments on the properties of the fuels and lubricants and their combustion and emissions behaviors.
