Payman Dehghanian, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been named the recipient of the IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Individual Award. This is the second year in a row he has received the award.
Dehghanian will receive the award at the 2016 IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference during the awards banquet on Saturday (April 9). The award is given to those who have exceeded their responsibilities in IEEE committees and volunteer jobs for IEEE promotion, such as those who have demonstrated excellent research success and publication records and outstanding editorial and reviewing services to IEEE conferences and journals.
Region 5 covers all the IEEE activities in the Southwestern United States and includes eight states — Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Wyoming. Within Region 5, there are more than 23,000 higher grade members and 3,600 student members. They are aligned with 26 sections and more than 90 student branches.
Dehghanian received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tehran in 2009 and his master's degree from Sharif University of Technology in 2011, both in electrical engineering. His research interests include power system protection and control, power system reliability, asset management, maintenance scheduling, renewable integration and smart-grid applications.
