Dr. Alaa Elwany, assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University, is a member of a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Ibrahim Karaman that was awarded a $550,000 grant from the Airforce Office of Scientific Research’s Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP).
DURIP supports university research infrastructure essential for acquiring major equipment necessary in developing high quality research capabilities that support research in technical areas of interest to the Department of Defense. The team included faculty members from industrial engineering, materials science and engineering and aerospace engineering.
The grant will be used to develop a state-of-the-art, multi-material deposition additive manufacturing system with insitu monitoring and material characterization capabilities. This will support the team’s cutting edge research in design and discovery of new materials.
