M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. I. Yucel Akkutlu holder of the Flotek Industries, Inc. Career Development Professorship in Petroleum Engineering. The endowed development professorship was effective Jan. 1.
Akkutlu is an associate professor in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is also the director of graduate advising and the William Keeler Fellow. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, and a master’s and Ph.D., both in petroleum engineering, from the University of Southern California.
Akkutlu’s research focuses on phase behavior of multi-component fluids in nanoporous materials; shale gas and oil resource assessment and characterization; CO2-enhanced shale gas and oil recovery; and transport and reactions in porous media.
