Mahdi Imani, Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, received a finalist paper award at the 49th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers 2015.
Imani, whose advisor and co-author is Dr. Ulisses Braga-Neto, won the award for his paper "Optimal Gene Regulatory Network Inference Using the Boolean Kalman Filter and Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation." In his paper a method is presented for the inference of Boolean gene regulatory networks observed through noise. The method is based on Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation using the optimal MMSE state estimator for Boolean dynamical systems, known as the Boolean Kalman Filter (BKF).
Imani received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and his master's degree in electrical engineering, both from University of Tehran in 2012 and 2014 respectively. In 2014 Imani began working towards toward his Ph.D. in the Genomic Signal Processing Laboratory. His current research interests include state and parameter estimation of Boolean dynamical systems and stochastic control with application in genomic signal processing. Honors include being selected the best Ph.D. student among the first two-year Ph.D. students in the electrical and computer engineering department at Texas A&M in 2015.
