Dr. Lewis Ntaimo, associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University, was a member of the team that won the INFORMS Computing Society (ICS) annual award for the best group of related papers dealing with the operations research/computer science interface.
Others sharing in the prize were Suvrajeet Sen, Dinakar Gade, Julia Higle, Simge Küçükyavuz, and Hanif Sherali. The collaborators were recognized for their seminal work on stochastic mixed integer programming captured in five research papers. Ntaimo was lead author for two of those papers.
“This award was really a huge surprise for me since it has been 10 years now since my first publication along this line of work,” Ntaimo said. “In fact, the fourth publication listed on the award is based on my Ph.D. dissertation work. Therefore, it is fulfilling to see that the optimization community has actually recognized the contributions we have made in advancing solution methods in stochastic mixed-integer programming.”
The award was presented at this year’s annual conference in Philadelphia. The occasion brought together all six collaborators.
“This is a great accomplishment for Dr. Ntaimo because it is peer recognition,” said Dr. César Malavé, head of the department. “Also, there were 10 nominations, and his team was chosen as number one.”
