DehghanianPayman Dehghanian, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, won prizes at two Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) events.

Dehghanian, who is a research assistant for Dr. Mladen Kezunovic, received the 2nd Best Poster Award at the IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS) Annual Meeting and was awarded the Best Poster and Presentation Award at the IEEE MetroCon 2015 conference. Both awards were given for his poster, “Flexible Implementation of Power System Topology Control in Smart Electricity Grids.”

Dehghanian received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tehran in 2009 and his master's degree from Sharif University of Technology in 2011, both in electrical engineering. His research interests include power system protection and control, power system reliability, asset management, maintenance scheduling, renewable integration and smart-grid applications.

The IAS annual meeting has a long tradition of providing an international forum for experts to present and discuss the latest developments in the application of electrical technology to industry. This conference is specifically designed for the practicing engineer interested in this field and emphasizes professional development, learning from experts, sharing of experiences and networking with peers.

MetroCon 2015 is an annual engineering conference hosted by IEEE-Fort Worth. The conference’s aim is to educate engineers on the latest developments in science, engineering and technology related to all aspects of electrical engineering ranging from communications, electronics, control, power and energy.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Oncor Electric Delivery, LLC jointly sponsor the IEEE MetroCon Student Poster Competition. The purpose of the competition is to encourage professional and technical development among engineering students. The competition included an oral presentation and a poster detailing the work being considered in the competition.
