Weichold MarkDr. Mark H. Weichold has been named executive director for the Halliburton Global Engineering Program within the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. 

Weichold, who currently serves as the dean and CEO of Texas A&M University at Qatar and is a Regents Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will begin his new position on Jan. 4, 2016.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Weichold back to the main campus and with his international leadership experience and perspective, he is ideally suited to lead our new and expanded initiatives in global programs,” said M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering. “We believe the value of a global perspective is critical for our students and we are confident that Dr. Weichold will help us achieve our ambitious goals to ensure our graduates have access to global experiences.” 

In the role of executive director, Weichold will oversee all aspects of education research related activities overseas for the Look College. This includes, but is not limited to identifying and developing opportunities for international experiential education, study abroad, international internships and collaborative capstone design projects.

Weichold joined the electrical and computer engineering department at Texas A&M in 1982 and became dean and CEO of the Qatar campus in 2007. Weichold has also served as the dean of undergraduate programs and associate provost for academic services on Texas A&M’s main campus. 

In 2009 he was recognized as a Regents Professor for his outstanding work and exemplary contribution to Texas A&M. In 2013, he was awarded the Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah International Energy Award for lifetime achievement for the advancement of education.

Weichold is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a member of the American Physical Society and a registered professional engineer in in the State of Texas.
