M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Berna Hascakir the Stephen A. Holditch Faculty Fellow in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering in recognition of her accomplishments and future potential. The endowed faculty fellowship is effective Nov. 1.
Hascakir is an assistant professor in petroleum engineering. She joined the Texas A&M engineering faculty in April 2012. Hascakir received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in environmental technology and both from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. She received her Ph.D. in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Middle East Technical University in Turkey.
Hascakir’s research interests include heavy oil and oil shale recovery with enhanced oil recovery methods; in-situ combustion; hot fluid injection; chemical/thermal EOR applications; thermal stimulation; diagnostic studies on reservoir rock and fluids; X-ray computed tomography; X-ray diffraction; fourier transform infrared; scanning electron microscopy; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; and produced water management.
