Dr. Steven Wright, professor and associate department head in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, was elected vice president for member and student activities of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).
Wright, who holds the Royce E. Wisenbaker Professorship II in Engineering, has joint appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Radiology in the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
His research interests are in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and antenna theory. He established the Magnetic Resonance Systems Lab, which aims to develop instrumentation and techniques to improve magnetic resonance imaging and to train students in MRI, radio frequency, applied electromagnetics and image and signal processing.
Prior to joining the department, Wright was a research engineer for MRI at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, and an adjunct assistant professor of electrical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Wright is also a Fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, IEEE and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
