PTCPeer Teacher Central (PTC) within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University has been renovated and is ready for student use.

The renovation includes glass walls to enclose PTC as well as new computers and furnishings. The open space design allows for collaboration between peer teachers and students.

Computer science and engineering is grateful for generous gift from HP which made the renovation possible. HP is a member of the department’s Industrial Affiliate Program and has been since the program’s inception in 2004.  As an IAP member, HP’s engagement with the department is extremely beneficial to students, staff and faculty.

Peer Teacher Central helps bridge the gap between students and instructors by providing extra support to students, free of charge. Students who had success in computer science and engineering classes are chosen to serve as peer teachers. Dr. Teresa Leyk coordinates the peer teachers and ensures they are prepared to help students.

“PTC provides a comfortable atmosphere and space for students to ask other students questions about homework and lab assignments,” Leyk said. “Peer teachers are positively impacting the success of students in their major.”

PTC was designed with current and future student success in mind. Computer science and engineering is committed to providing students with the skills and resources necessary to be successful as a college student and future professional.

PTC is located in the lobby of the Bright Building. Peer teachers are available to help students Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. PTC is closed on Saturday.
