the inheritanceA video created by the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University is a finalist in the National Academy of Engineering’s (NAE) Engineering For You 2 video contest.

“The Inheritance,” a two-minute video describing how the use of solar energy can provide sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions and emphasizing the need for innovative engineers, is one of six finalists in the General Public category.

To vote for “The Inheritance,” visit the contest website and search the General Public category. 

According to the NAE website, the goal of the contest is to highlight how engineering will create a more sustainable, healthy, secure and/or joyous world by addressing the NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering. The competition is comprised of a people’s choice winner (by category) and a best overall winner, with results to be formally announced in September 2015. Voting ends Aug. 3.

Dr. M. Nazmul Karim, department head and T. Michael O’Connor Chair II, led the video project with Dr. Mark Holtzapple, professor in the department. Production was directed by Igor Kraguljac and supported by Kidron Vestal, department communications manager.
