Maitland -d -web -useDr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Duncan Maitland holder of the Stewart & Stevenson Professorship I in Engineering. The endowed professorship is effective May 1. 

Maitland is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station’s assistant agency director for commercialization and entrepreneurship. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland State University, a master’s in physics from Cleveland State and his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University.

Maitland’s research focuses on novel treatments of cardiovascular disease with a focus on stroke. His research projects include endovascular interventional devices, microactuators, optical therapeutic devices and basic device-body interactions/physics including computational and experimental techniques.
